Outlook, OCS, Lync user pictures import with PowerShell

The Outlook 2010 and the Lync 2010 has a fancy feature that shows the picture of the users, which stored in the Active Directory. The Exchange 2010 introduces the thumbnailPhoto attribute for the User objects that can contain the photo. There are multiple ways to import pictures into the AD; one of the easiest is the Import-RecipientDataProperty Exchange commandlet, but what can we do if we have not installed the Exchange 2010? There are several 3rd party applications available for picture uploading, but if I need to do something more than twice, I automate it. How to connect to OCS 2007 R2 Server via Lync 2010

There are huge differences between OCS 2007 R2 Server and Lync 2010 Server of course. The client of the communicator server changed also, so Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 changed to Lync 2010. Although connecting to OCS 2007 R2 via Lync 2010 not allowed, with a little trick, we can do that.

Be careful, only the OCS 2007 R2 features availabe on the Lync 2010!

We need to add a registry key on the user machine under the HKCU \Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator, named DisableServerCheck DWORD, and add as 1 as value.

Here is my exported key, you can copy-paste to a .REG file to simply import it.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator]
"DisableServerCheck"=dword:00000001

That’s all folks.
